Therapist profile

Michel Zamora

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

I’m Michel Zamora, a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a focus on couples and relational therapy. I support couples to improve communication, work through conflict, and rebuild connection. I also work with adults and teens aged 16+, including students and newcomers, navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, and life transitions. Moving from Guatemala City to Canada deepened my understanding of starting over, navigating cultural expectations, and finding belonging. My background in psychotherapy, as owner and CEO of a private school, and director of a nonprofit organization shapes my work with people experiencing pressure and burnout. I offer therapy in English and Spanish, creating space to feel understood and move toward what matters most to you.

Get to know Michel before your first session

This short video offers a sense of how Michel speaks about the work, the tone of support clients can expect, and whether the fit feels right before booking.

Working together

Working with me means having space to speak openly, feel understood, and explore difficult experiences without judgment. I bring warmth, curiosity, and practical guidance, helping you recognize patterns and consider new ways forward. My goal is for you to leave with greater understanding of yourself and a manageable next step.

What to expect

We begin by checking in on how you are feeling and what needs attention that day. Together, we explore your experiences, emotions, and relationship patterns, connecting them to the goals you want to work toward. Depending on your needs, we may practice communication, explore an emotional response, or develop tools for managing stress and setting boundaries. Sessions are thoughtful and interactive, with room for reflection, honest conversation, and your feedback.

We accept insurance

If your plan includes psychotherapy or counselling coverage, sessions with HCPC may be eligible for reimbursement. Receipts can be provided for insurance claims.

Approach and focus

My approach is collaborative, culturally sensitive, and grounded in evidence-based therapy. I draw from emotional, relational, and cognitive approaches, adapting our work to your needs rather than following a fixed formula. Together, we explore how your experiences influence the way you think, feel, and connect with others. With couples, I help partners understand recurring conflict, express their needs, and strengthen trust and connection. With individuals, we work toward greater self-understanding, healthier boundaries, and practical ways to navigate distress. Throughout therapy, I respect your pace and welcome your feedback so our work stays connected to what matters to you.

Issues I work with

These are many of the concerns that often bring clients into therapy. See if Michel covers your area of concern within their main scope of support.

Main areas of support

  • Couples and relationships: Communication difficulties, recurring conflict, trust, intimacy, and emotional disconnection.
  • Relationship changes: Painful breakups, relationship uncertainty, and rebuilding a sense of self.
  • Anxiety, depression, and burnout: Overthinking, emotional exhaustion, stress, and sleep difficulties.
  • Immigration and cultural identity: Homesickness, belonging, cultural adjustment, and family expectations.

Therapeutic orientations

The work is shaped by approaches that support emotional safety, cultural awareness, and meaningful progress at a pace that feels right for each client.

Gottman Method

I draw from the Gottman Method to help couples understand recurring conflict and strengthen friendship, trust, and emotional intimacy. We practice ways to communicate needs, repair disagreements, and create meaningful connection.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

We explore the emotions and relationship needs beneath reactions such as withdrawing, arguing, or feeling disconnected. This can help you understand your responses and develop more secure, supportive connections.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

We examine how thoughts, emotions, and behaviours influence one another. Together, we develop practical strategies for responding to anxiety, self-criticism, and patterns that keep you feeling stuck.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

We explore how to make room for difficult thoughts and feelings while identifying what matters most to you. This approach supports meaningful action, even when uncertainty or discomfort is present.

Training

Additional training and continuing education help shape the way care is offered within the therapist's clinical work.

“I believe life is beautiful and worth savouring. When life feels difficult, it’s natural not to feel our best. We can ask for support, make room for what we feel, and take the next step toward what matters to us.”
